Ysaÿe wrote to Guy Ropartz, head of the conservatory and Concert Society in Nancy, France, about organizing a concert. At the end of the letter, Ysaÿe proposed premiering the Poème, writing, “Do you know that Chausson has completely finished a very beautiful piece for violin that I like enormously?”
